The roll shell is supported in relation to the axis by means of various hydraulic systems that influence the geometry of the roll shell and match this to the shell profile of the opposing roll. Such rolls can be driven or non-driven. In the case of driven rolls, triple ring bearings are frequently used. When triple ring bearings are fitted, the stationary axis – the so-called crosshead– is supported in the bearing inner ring. The rotating middle ring connects the drive to the roll shell.
